Week Two Devotional

(January 27-Feb 2)

Reading: 1 Kings 19:1-21 (ESV)

Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:12 - And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.

Application:

What are some noisy things in your life that prevents you from hearing God’s voice?

SILENT MODE STEPS:

1. IDENTIFY

Throughout your week, identify the “noises” that are in your life that prevent you from hearing the gentle voice of God.

2. EXPERIMENT

Elijah experienced both external noise (Jezebel threatening his life), and internal noise (feelings of isolation). Pick one noise in your life (fear, busyness, social media, etc.) and ask God to help you to find a way to turn it down so you can hear what He wants to say
to you.

3. LISTEN

God spoke to Elijah several times (to strengthen, to encourage, to direct, etc.). Create space this week and listen to what God is saying to you. Get a journal and write down what He says.

4. PRAY

Personal: Put yourself in Elijah’s shoes. Ask God to help you deal with both the internal and external noise in your life.
Bethesda: Pray that above all the noise, we will have ears to hear what the Spirit is speaking to us.
