The family of Dorothy Ruth King (nee Vaters) are inviting friends and acquaintances to join them for a celebration of Dorothy’s life on Saturday (September 2) at 11 AM at Bethesda Pentecostal Church, 1 Escasoni Place St. John’s (click here for directions).

Visitation will take place at Carnells Funeral Home at the following times;

  • Friday, September 1, 2023 2:00PM - 4:00PM

  • Friday, September 1, 2023 7:00PM - 9:00PM

Obituary


Passed peacefully away on August 26, 2023, at the age of 96. Predeceased by her parents Eugene and Jenny Vaters, her husband Robert T. King, and son Robert V. King.

Leaving to mourn her son Keith (Jean) and daughter Denise (Robert); grandchildren Naomi King-Cochrane (Ben), Bethany, Robert, Eliza, Brittany, and Brandon King; great grandchildren Robert and Hannah Cochrane; brother Albert and wife Anita Vaters; sisters in law Yvonne and Beulah Vaters, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

A loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dorothy was also a teacher at Eugene Vaters Academy until her retirement and left a lasting impact on many students’ lives who still speak fondly of her to this day.

Dorothy was a devoted member of Bethesda Pentecostal Church and introduced the idea of the Annual Singing Christmas Tree at Bethesda. Her faith in God was evident in every part of her life.  She was a prayer warrior and an exemplary model of Christian kindness and love.

She took great pleasure in her gardening which was evident by her front yard flower garden and especially enjoyed picking berries with her grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Hillcrest Estates team that cared for her so lovingly over the past few years. Also, thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Health Science Centre during her final days.

The family will be accepting visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm on Friday, September 1, 2023.  Funeral Service will be held at the Bethesda Pentecostal Church 1 Escasoni Place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00am.  Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Flowers will be graciously accepted, or a donation can be made in Dorothy’s name to the Canadian Red Cross, at 17 Major’s Path, St. John’s, A1A 4Z9.
