Obituary
Cyril passed peacefully away at Health Sciences Center on March 5th, 2025, in St. John’s, NL, he was 92.
Cyril John Anderson Ludlow was born to John and Daisy Mae Ludlow on November 27, 1932, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the sixth of nine children. He graduated from Bishop Feild College in 1949. During his high school years he developed a love for sports, especially track and field and soccer. His love for singing started early as a choir member and young boy soloist at St Thomas Church of England. After marriage he became an active church member of Bethesda Pentecostal Church, taught Sunday School and mentored many young adults over the years. He loved to worship and sang whenever called upon his whole life. In his early years he worked as a lineman for the CNT and then in construction and real estate business for most of his life. He was known for his generous and compassionate heart, his deep love for God and supported many local ministry efforts as well as many international missionary works. He trusted God to “always take care of him”. He was always quick to meet with anyone who wanted to discuss their faith and scripture and was known for his in-depth story-telling and jokes. He was 15 years old when he met the love of his life Joan Mitchell, and it was clear from the beginning the two had something very special. He regarded his wife so highly and referred to her as “precious”. Their romance led to 62 years of marriage and a family of seven sons of whom they were so proud. It was a life of love, fun and adventure.
Cyril is predeceased by his loving wife Joan Mitchell, sons Trevor Mark and Darryl John Alexander, and granddaughter Amy Beth.
He is survived by his sons David (Cynthia), Courtenay, BC; Howard, St. John’s, NL; Rodger (Debbie), Goulds, NL; Geoffrey (Jill), Visalia, CA, USA; Jonathan (Tamara), Sebastopol, CA, USA and daughter-in-law Judy Smallwood Ludlow, St. John’s, NL; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
